SCENARIO
A family walks into their home after getting groceries, as they approach the kitchen to put the groceries away. They notice water pouring out from the cabinet under the sink, 2 inches of water is standing on the floor and is now migrating to other parts of the house. The family is now in shock and freezes. What do we do?

Step 1
Immediately turn off the water at the meter using a water key.

Step 2
“Safety First.” Evaluate the situation. Avoid walking in the water and verify there are no electrical cords in the area that may be in the water. If it is safe to do so, meaning if there are no electrical cords lying in the wet damaged area, start grabbing towels to create a dam to prevent water from migrating into unaffected areas. For safe measures turn off the breaker to that affected area.
Step 3
Call your local plumber to come out to investigate the issue and make the repair. This is important. Keep any faulty parts that the plumber replaces. Get a receipt from the plumber regarding the service call. Ask the plumber to give you a plumber’s report or analysis of what happened or the cause of loss. Get the technician’s info and/or a business card.

Step 4
Immediately after you call the plumber, the next call should be to a restoration company. This is where we come in. Hopefully, you have chosen Legion Property Restoration for your Georgia Water Damage Restoration Our goal is to extract the water and place an industry-standard dehumidifier in the affected area to initiate the stabilization process.
